Andy Varnom
Date of Birth: 1955
Island: Isle of Man
Family: Married to Lynne and has one daughter Gemma.
Sporting Background: Andy has a keen interest in a number of sports both as a participant and spectator and has played Football and Cricket for many years. More recently he has been involved in the setting up of a new Tennis Club.
Profession: Andy has worked in the sports profession since he was 18 years old and is currently Head of Sport and Recreation for the Isle of Man Government. He is also the Professional Advisor to Isle of Man Sports Council and currently Chairman of the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM). Andy was also recently appointed Deputy Games Director and Sports Co-ordinator for the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games to be hosted by the Isle of Man.
Hobbies: Playing tennis and watching Sky Sports.
IGA History: Andy attended his first Games in Gotland in 1999 and has attended all of the Games since. He was the Deputy Games Director for the 2001 Games in the Isle of Man. He joined the IGA Executive in July 2007.
Vision for the future of the IGA: With the size of the Games increasing in recent years, both in the number of Islands and participants, the next few years will be crucial to the future of this wonderful event. It is essential that the friendship and sportsmanship within the Games family is maintained and enhanced for all member Islands for many years to come. |
