BANKING EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENT
WITH A SPORTING INTEREST
Young athletes involved in the NatWest Island Games are again being given the opportunity of working at the offices of the international banking group sponsoring the event - this time in the Isle of Man.
The scheme has been in operation for the past two years and on both occasions the candidate selected was offered work experience in the marketing department of NatWest offshore in Jersey. As the 2001 Games will be held in the Isle of Man it has been decided that next year's successful applicant will join the staff of Isle of Man Bank. They will be based in the marketing department in Douglas for three months but will have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of the banking operation.
Applications are invited from students who are normally resident in any member island of the International Island Games Association. Applicants should be under 25 at the time of the secondment and be able to converse and write in English.
Terry Quayle, Community Investment Manager of Isle of
Man Bank, said: "This
is an excellent opportunity for a young business student to experience life
with an international bank. To get the most out of their secondment they should
ideally be taking a course in economics, marketing or a business or finance-related
subject. The only other condition is that they should either have competed
in the NatWest Island Games in the past or have a close connection with an
official Games sport."
NatWest will pay the trainee a salary similar to that of a clerical officer and provide accommodation plus one return flight. Placement will be between June and August 2001. If the trainee is selected to represent his or her island at the 2001 Games, then time off will be given to enable the student to join his or her team during the week of the Games. If the student is not competing, he or she will help bank or 2001 Island Games Organising Committee staff with the organisation of the event.
Applications, to be received by the end of November, should be sent to Terry at the International Island Games Association, 21A/23 Athol Street, Douglas. Isle of Man. British Isles. Representatives of NatWest offshore and the Island Games Association will make the final selection. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by telephone or video link and the successful candidates notified by Christmas.
