SAAREMAA STUDENT CHOSEN
AS NATWEST ISLAND GAMES TRAINEE

A 22 year old student from Saaremaa has been selected as the beneficiary of this year's NatWest Island Games Trainee Scheme.

Veiko Lember will join the staff of Isle of Man Bank for a ten week period this summer and although based in the marketing department in Douglas - the Island's capital - will have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of the banking operation.

The trainee scheme has been in operation for the past two years and on both occasions the chosen candidate was offered work experience at NatWest offshore in Jersey. However, as this year's Games are being held in the Isle of Man it was decided that the latest recipient should work there.

Aim of the scholarship is to give young athletes from member islands the opportunity if working within an international banking environment. Veiko receives a salary and accommodation will be provided.

He is a student at the University of Tartu, the oldest university in Estonia, where he is doing a Masters Degree in Public Administration. His masters thesis focuses on private and public sector partnership.

Veiko is a member of the Estonian national volleyball team and the Tartu Club - one of the country's top names. He won a silver medal at the 1997 Island Games in Jersey as a member of Saaremaa's volleyball team and last year was awarded Saaremaa's Association of Local Municipalities Scholarship. This related to results achieved in both his academic and sporting life.

While employed at Isle of Man Bank Veiko will be working with the Bank's Community Investment Manager, Terry Quayle, and is likely to be closely involved with the preparation for the Games which are being held in July.
