KAY BATTY
RE-APPOINTED
IGA GENERAL SECRETARY
The International Island Games Association (IGA) has
announced the re-appointment of Kay Batty as its general secretary, together
with a new role for Games Administrator Gary Jakeman.
Kay had been on a short-term contract as general
secretary and this has now been extended for a further period of three years.
Based in the Isle of Man, she is responsible for the day-to-day office
management and the administration of IGA affairs.
She has been involved with all but one Island Games,
(missing out on the 87 Games in Guernsey she is looking forward to 2003)
initially as a swimming official at the first event and since then on the
coaching side. Kay is currently the Isle of Man national swim coach.
Meanwhile, Gary Jakeman who was the Games Administrator
for this year’s event has agreed to undertake a new short-term role for the
IGA. He has been appointed Project Officer with responsibilities for
investigating certain areas within the association framework.
In the light of his experience at the recent event he
will be looking at ways in which the byelaws of individual sports within the
Games complement those of their ruling bodies. Other aspects to be explored
include the question of entries and accreditation.
Gary - a former teacher of sports and information
technology - was originally on a two-year contract as Games Administrator and
will now work part time for the IGA for the next six months.
IGA chairman Bo Frykenstam, who
visited the Isle of Man
for discussions with Kay and Gary, said: "In the time Kay has been with
us she has proved to be an exceptional administrator and we are delighted she
has
accepted our offer of an extended contract.
"Following the recent NatWest
Island Games we felt there were some issues which would benefit from detailed
investigation and, with
his experience, Gary was the ideal person to carry this out. We are very pleased
that he has agreed to assist us." Media enquiries: Bo Frykenstam, Chairman
