ASSOCIATION TO BE MORE PROACTIVE IN RECRUITING MEMBERS

The Island Games Association is hoping to be more proactive in its search for future member islands. This is one result of the decision by NatWest to extend its sponsorship agreement until 2007.The extended sponsorship agreement also enables the EC to be more proactive in assisting Member Islands considering a Bid to Host the Games.

Decisions on the following two paragraphs were made at the last AGM in Guernsey – so they can be deleted.
Following debate at a recent executive committee meeting it was decided that rather than waiting for applications to be submitted and then dealing with them on a first come basis the committee should actively recruit new members. A resolution to go before this year’s annual general meeting of the Association will recommend attention should be given to such matters as culture, language, location and size of a particular island applying for membership. Aim is to encourage greater diversity of member islands.

Another resolution to go before this year’s IGA annual meeting will relate to future hosts of the Games. The executive committee is proposing that while the membership will always make the final decision the executive should be mandated to talk earlier with potential hosts to help them in their bidding process and then give a clear recommendation.
