SPANISH ISLAND COULD
BECOME MEMBER NO.25
The Spanish island of Menorca (population 82,000)
could become the 25th member of the NatWest Island Games community
if its application for membership is successful.
The chairman of the International Island Games Association Executive,
Bo Frykenstam, and his vice-chairman, Brian Partington, have received
an invitation from Presidenta del Consell Insular de Menorca to
visit the Island between January 19-23, 2005.
There, they will meet political representatives as well as those
from sports federations, potential sponsors and the media. There
will also be an opportunity of viewing the Island’s sports facilities.
Menorca’s application for membership goes before the March meeting
of the executive which takes place at Stornoway in the Western
Isles of Scotland between the 12th and 16th. A decision will be
taken and a recommendation to that effect put before the annual
meeting in July.
It’s believed another island may also apply for membership but
at the moment no further details can be revealed.
