Annual General Meeting at Shetland Hotel 12th July 2005.
24 member-islands took part of the Annual General Meeting of
the IGA at Shetland Hotel. During the nearly seven hours meeting several issues
were discussed. Among them:
- The Host Island for the 2009 NatWest island Games will be Åland. Åland
got 33 and Ynys Môn 21 of the 54 votes.
- The IGA will sign the international Wada-code. That means for example
that dopingtests must take effect as from the next NatWest Island Games in
Rhodes
2007.
- The Spanish island of Menorca was approved as the 25th member island.
Under the present constitution there will be no more islands in the IGA-family.
- The meeting was also briefed about the progress of the host-island Rhodes
for the 2007 NatWest island Games. There will be 14 sports on the programme.
Among them judo which makes a comeback to the NatWest Island Games. The
last Games judo was included was Gibraltar 1995. The Games in Rhodes will
take place
between 30 June to 7 Juky 2007.
- Chairman Bo Frykenstam retired and was elected Honorary Life Member.
- New chairman after the NatWest Island Games in Shetland will be present
vice chairman Brian Partington (Isle of Man). The new vice chairman will
be Jorgen Pettersson (Aland). The treasurer Eric Legg (Guernsey) was re-elected.
In the membership James Johnston (Shetland) was re-elected. New members
in
the committee will be Anu Vares (Saaremaa) and Donna Jones (Ynys Mon).
Member Jaan Lember (Saaremaa) did not seek reelection.
