Annual General Meeting in Rhodes 3rd July 2007

All 25 Member Islands took part in the Annual General Meeting of the IIGA which was held at the Esperides Beach Hotel in Rhodes yesterday.

Elections were held for the Executive Committee to serve for the term 2007 to 2009 commencing after the Closing Ceremony of the NatWest Island Games in Rhodes. The Chairman of the new Committee will be the present Vice chairman Jorgen Pettersson (Aland).  The new Vice chairman will be James Johnston (Shetland).  The Treasurer Eric Legg (Guernsey) was re-elected as was Committee Member Anu Vares (Saaremaa).   Two new Members were elected Robert McGinnigle (Jersey) and Andy Varnom (Isle of Man).  Both the Honorary Legal Adviser Geoffrey Karran (Isle of Man) and Honorary Medical Adviser Dr Carl Clinton (Jersey) were re-elected.

Retiring Chairman Brian Partington OBE was unanimously elected an Honorary Life Member of the IGA

Under the Agenda Item Intentions to Bid for a Games the meeting received:

  • Formal intent to bid for the 2013 Games from Bermuda and Prince Edward Island.   As the deadline for receipt of intentions to bid for this Games is 28th September 2007 there is still time for more intentions to be received.
  • Formal intent to bid for the 2015 Games was received from Ynys Mon and an intention to bid was also indicated by the Faroe Islands.
  • Formal intent to bid, preferably for the 2017 Games was received from Menorca and from Gotland for a Games between 2015 and 2019.

The Chairman welcomed new Member Island Menorca to their first Games.
